About Me

I graduated from the Univeristy of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2006 with an MEng (Hons) in Computer Systems Engineering and later moved to Manchester to work in Technical Support at Zen Internet Ltd where I talked to customers on the phone and fiddled with servers.

I currently work for Adam Communications Systems International primarily as a Software Engineer developing a web based product management application using LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) and AJAX methodologies.  When not developing, I work on R&D projects - my current project involves setting up a complete high availability MySQL cluster virtualised over two host servers with automated failover.  It’s pretty cool and I really enjoy it.

I am a lover of all things technical and an advocate of free software and GNU/Linux.  I currently run a customised Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop as my everyday OS, Ubuntu 8.10 Server on my Bytemark virtual machine for all things thouret.co.uk and a custom Gentoo 2007.0 on my development server.

I was lucky enough to spend 6 months over 2008/09 living in Mountain View, California in the heart of Silicon Valley where I enjoyed friendly people and plentiful sunshine though it is nice to be back in Stockport, England.
